Investigators Monday were sifting through the ashes of a weekend blaze that destroyed three semi-tractor rigs and two trailers in Millcreek.

Unified Fire Capt. Clint Meacham said the 6 a.m. Sunday fire was reported by several motorists who saw heavy smoke while driving on nearby Interstate 15. A South Salt Lake fire unit initially located the source of the blaze, a truck storage lot at 3900 South and 300 West.

UFA crews quickly responded and the flames were extinguished 10 minutes later. However, three trucks and two trailers were lost.

Meacham said the lot was not staffed at the time of the fire and its cause was not immediately discovered. A damage estimate was still being compiled Monday.

No injuries were reported.
