Utah County sheriff's deputies on Saturday recovered the body of a fisherman who disappeared two weeks ago in Utah Lake.
The body of Tam Huynh, 37, was located floating in Utah Lake about 300 yards west of the Lindon Boat Harbor, according to Utah County Sgt. Spencer Cannon. Huynh disappeared March 30 while fishing.
Cannon said Huynh's brother was at the marina Saturday morning looking around when he saw something in the water that looked like a body. He called authorities, who arrived and found Huynh's body. Cannon said it appears that Huynh drowned, though authorities will have to wait several weeks for a medical examiner's report before knowing the exact cause of death.
Cannon added that there was no evidence of foul play.
Last month, other fishermen reported Huynh missing after finding an empty, 18-foot boat stuck in the reeds near the boat harbor, which is located at 2130 W. 600 South. Huynh's pickup truck and boat trailer were in the harbor's parking lot.
The disappearance prompted shoreline searches and a shoulder-to-shoulder search of the water north of the harbor. Cannon also said daily area searches had continued, even as hope of finding Huynh evaporated.
Cannon said the bodies of most people who drown sink initially, then rise to the surface as "Mother Nature takes her course and causes the decomposition process to proceed." As the body decomposes, it can rise to the surface, Cannon explained.
Cannon speculated that the relatively cool lake water slowed the decomposition and kept Huynh's body deep in the murky water for the past two weeks. Cannon added that the area where authorities found the body had previously been searched.
