Al Jolson would love northern Utah's forecast heading toward the weekend, reminding us that, "Though April showers may come your way, they bring the flowers, that bloom in May."
After Thursday's cloudy skies and rain, the National Weather Service predicted clearing horizons and afternoon sunshine on Friday. High temperatures were to warm into the upper-50s and low-60s, up about 5 degrees from Thursday.
Southern Utahns looked for a similar forecast, though the mercury was expected to rise into the mid- to upper-70s in Utah's Dixie on Friday, also about 5 degrees warmer than on Thursday.
The Utah Division of Air Quality predicted fresh air throughout the weekend, giving all monitoring stations a "Green" grade.
The Utah Avalanche Center, meanwhile, noted reduced risk for dangerous backcountry snow slides for Friday. While Uintas remained at "considerable" risk, Logan-area slopes were at "moderate" and the mountains above Salt Lake City, Provo and Ogden were at "low" risk.
Salt Lake City's high temperature Friday was pegged at 60, up from Thursday's 56-degree forecast; Ogden looked for 59 and 37 degrees, respectively; Provo 61 and 56; Logan 58 and 55; Wendover 61 and 58; Duchesne 60 and 56; Cedar City 62 and 58; St. George 78 and 75; and Moab 64 and 60 degrees.

Northern Mountain Routes:
1.) Periods of road snow/slush under snow showers will impact Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon (east of the Salt Lake Valley) before 9 A.M. Thursday.
3.) Periods of road snow/slush will impact SR-150 near the winter closure gate (east of Kamas) and over SR-248 (between US-40 and Kamas) before 9 A.M. Thursday.
Central/Southern Mountain Routes:
1.) Periods of road snow/slush under snow showers before 11 A.M. Thursday will impact SR-31 over the SR-31 Summit (east of Fairview) and over the SR-264 Summit (south of US-6).
2.) Periods of road snow under snow showers before noon Thursday will impact SR-153 (east of Beaver), SR-20 (east of I-15 milepost 95) and SR-14 (east of Cedar City).
3.) Road snow, blowing snow, and reduced visibilities will continue to impact SR-143 over Brian Head (east of Parowan) through Thursday afternoon.
