Residents in West Haven, Hooper residents urged to lock up

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office says residents can do something very simple to stanch a veritable flood of automobile and residential burglaries reported recently in the West Haven and Hooper areas.

Lock up.

"We’ve been overwhelmed with burglaries in those areas, more than 20 cases in the past 30 days alone," sheriff’s Lt. Mark Lowther said Wednesday.

"These have all been crimes of opportunity — people just walking past parked cars and garages and targeting the unlocked ones," he added.

"We’re urging residents to simply take a minute to secure a vehicle or locking the garage door could save them financial losses and our deputies the additional workload," Lowther said.

Anyone with information about the Hooper and West Haven burglaries is asked to call Weber County sheriff’s detectives at 801-778-6631.
