A Cottonwood Heights woman was critically injured when she was struck by a car backing out of a steep driveway Tuesday afternoon.

Cottonwood Heights police Sgt. Mark Askerlund said the 74-year-old woman was walking with her 75-year-old husband near 3600 East and 8200 South when hit. The driver did not see the couple until too late.

The victim was knocked down and hit her head on the concrete. Unified Fire Department paramedics responded and the woman was transported to Intermountain Medical Center.

Her husband was not injured.

Askerlund said no citations were issued, but the investigation is ongoing.
