More than 100,000 people are expected to flock to downtown Salt Lake City for the LDS Church Conference this weekend, and police are warning visitors about traffic congestion, limited parking and other restrictions.

The Salt Lake City Police Department cautioned conference-goers to park only in designated areas and warned that vehicles parked on neighborhood streets could be ticketed and towed at owners' expense.

North Temple between Main Street and West Temple will be closed for 30 minutes in order to facilitate the safe and timely exit of the approximately 25,000 people after each of the morning and afternoon sessions Saturday and Sunday.

Each conference also draws a small number of protesters, and police are reminding them to remain civil in their behavior while staying in designated "free speech zones."

Police also asked drivers to watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Police recommend that travelers to downtown for the 183rd Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints take public transportation if possible.

With that in mind, Utah Transit Authority is beefing up the number of TRAX light rail trains serving downtown Saturday and Sunday. The extra trains will run on the Sandy line before and after each session. Trains on other lines will arrive every 20 minutes.
