A man was critically injured Thursday in a rollover accident in Washington County.

A Ford Excursion was going south on Interstate 15 when a travel trailer it was hauling started whipping, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle about 2 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

After leaving the highway at mile post 42, in northern Washington County, the vehicle rolled and the roof caved in on the driver's head, UHP reports. The man suffered a serious head injury and was flown to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition.

Six other people in the Excursion — his family — had cuts and bruises and were taken to a Cedar City hospital in ambulances, said Trooper Jalaine Hawkes.

Everyone had been wearing their seat belts or were in a car seat. UHP has not yet identified the driver.
