The search for a fisherman reported missing in Utah Lake entered its fourth day Tuesday, as local and state public safety officials say there is little hope of finding Tam Huynh alive.
The 37-year-old West Valley City man was reported missing Saturday night after his empty, 18-foot boat was found stuck in the reeds near the Lindon Boat Harbor.
Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Eldon Packer said the key of the boat's motor was still in the on position and set on half-throttle, and life vests and other equipment were still onboard.
Searches that began this weekend from the air, and along the shoreline and throughout the northern end of the harbor, have failed to turn up any trace of Huynh.
Monday's efforts were repeatedly stalled as thunderstorms and rain squalls moved through the region, grounding aircraft and whipping the lake's waves. However, calmer conditions Tuesday were aiding searchers, Packer said.
"We have had really good conditions for our people today," he said. "It's partly cloudy but not raining and the winds have calmed down, so the waves are down on the lake."
Sheriff's Department and Utah State Parks boats were using sonar and dragging the lake's bed, but as of early afternoon nothing new had developed, Packer said.
Given the time that has passed, Packer acknowledged that search efforts are now focused on recovery, rather than rescue.
