Eight people were injured Saturday in a single-car crash — two critically — when the driver became distracted and rolled the vehicle near Cedar City, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
The vehicle, a GMC Suburban, was traveling eastbound on State Road 56, about six miles west of Cedar City, when the driver, for some unknown reason, became distracted and the vehicle veered off road to the right.
The driver overcorrected and the vehicle veered to the left. He overcorrected a second time and the vehicle veered to the right. The vehicle began to slide sideways and rolled, the UHP reported.
A male passenger, sitting in the front seat, was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported by air to a hospital in Salt Lake in critical condition.
A female occupant was transported by air to a hospital in Las Vegas, in critical condition.
Another female, who was six months pregnant, was transported by air to a hospital in St. George as a precaution.
Only one occupant, the male driver, was wearing his seat belt. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance as a precaution.
Two other male occupants were transported by ambulance, to a local hospital, as a precaution. The other two occupants were treated and released at the scene.
The UHP reported that all eight occupants were friends of each other.
