Draper • The city is sponsoring an open house on April 11 to answer questions on a road project that would widen 1300 East between 13200 South and Pioneer Road.

Although there will be no formal presentations, information will be given and public comments taken from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The mile-long project, in partnership with the Utah Department of Transportation, calls for adding a center lane to the two-lane road and installing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, shoulders, improved drainage and a bicycle lane.

City officials hope to have a map prepared for the open house detailing where the improvements will be added, said Carlye Sommers, the city's public involvement manager.

Traffic in the area has steadily increased as people have moved into the neighborhood, which includes three churches and two schools: Summit Academy is at 1285 E. 13200 South, and Corner Canyon Academy is at 12958 S. 1300 East.

The Canyons Board of Education has approved moving Crescent View Middle School from 11150 S. 300 East in Sandy to district property at 13133 S. 1300 East. The new location, expected to open this fall, will be the first traditional public middle school in Draper.

"At this point, the City Council is trying to work with citizens on the project," said Wayne Ballard, who lives on 13200 South. "This is exactly what needs to happen."

An environmental study for the road project was initiated in February and is expected to be completed by early June. Phase 11, which includes final design, is scheduled to begin later in June, with completion set for early fall.

"Throughout the project we'll periodically send email updates regarding public meetings, the study schedule and decisions that are made," said Sommers.
