Unified Fire Authority investigators are looking into whether a series of small blazes early Thursday morning in Midvale are related, and whether arson was involved.

UFA Capt. Clint Mecham said there was no clear initial evidence that the blazes — all within an hour of the first call, at 4:52 a.m. — were connected.

"We're just beginning our investigation of that," he said. "But whenever we get that many fires together we do have that suspicion of possible arson."

Mecham said the first fire, in the 200 East block of 7660 South, involved a portion of fencing. Minutes later, UFA crews were called to the scene of a car fire — and then the third fire call came in, involving another section of fence in the same general area.

Mecham said all three fires were quickly doused and no injuries were reported.
