A woman was in critical condition after being hit by a car that was driving along State Street in Midvale on Tuesday night.

Unified Police Lt. Steve Shreve said that the 22-year-old woman and a friend were crossing seven lanes of traffic near 7948 State St. in Midvale when the woman was hit by a 20-year-old driver.

Shreve said the pair were not using a crosswalk and that they were in a poorly-lit section of the road. The woman's friend also told police that they had been drinking before the collision, which occurred at about 9:30 p.m. The driver stopped at the scene.

Shreve said the woman, whose name was not released, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in "extremely critical" condition.
