West Valley City police chased down and arrested three men in an overnight drive-by shooting during which several shotgun rounds were fired into a home.
Police Sgt. Jason Hauer said a West Valley City officer was patrolling near 3400 South and 4000 West at 11:48 p.m. Thursday when he heard the gunfire and spotted a red SUV speeding off.
The officer gave chase, calling for assistance from other law enforcement as he pulled in behind the vehicle.
Hauer said the chase proceeded southbound on 3200 West toward 4700 South, and during that time, one of the men tossed a shotgun, later recovered, out of a window. As the SUV approached the Interstate 215 on-ramp, the officer rammed the vehicle to force it into a spin and stop.
By that time, other West Valley City officers had joined the chase and, along with the original officer, they approached the SUV, forced the three men out at gunpoint and arrested them.
The three were booked into Salt Lake County Jail early Friday on suspicion of attempted homicide.
Subsequent investigation found that pellets from the shotgun blasts had struck and penetrated the home, but no one inside was injured.
