Utah Moms for Clean Air is hosting an Earth Day Poster Contest as an alternative to a contest sponsored by the state that encourages Utah schoolchildren to describe the benefits of fossil fuels.
The Utah Division of Oil, Gas & Mining’s Earth Day poster contest theme, "Where Would We Be Without Oil, Gas, & Mining?" angered some parents at a Davis County school who called it "propaganda." The contest is funded by donations. A local chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers serves as lead sponsor.

Utah Moms for Clean Air’s alternative poster contest theme is "Explore the Economic, Environmental and Health Costs of Fossil Fuels on Utah."
The Utah Moms for Clean Air contest is open to all K-sixth grades and special-education students throughout Utah.
Schools are to select winners for each grade and submit those winners to compete in the statewide contest by April 19. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.
