Woman stabbed in the neck during Salt Lake City mugging
First Published Mar 19 2013 10:04 pm • Last Updated Mar 20 2013 09:39 am

A woman who was stabbed during a mugging in downtown Salt Lake City was recovering Tuesday night, but police were still on the lookout for the male suspect.

Salt Lake City police Lt. Carl Merino said the woman was walking by herself through a driveway behind Faustina Restaurant, 454 E. 300 South, when she was confronted by a man who tried to steal her purse. Merino said the woman would not let go of the purse, so the man stabbed her twice in the neck area before running away. The attack happened at about 8:15 p.m.

The woman then walked into a rear entrance to the restaurant and asked for help. Faustina employees called 911, Merino said. He said the woman was seriously injured in the attack but that she was stable and recovering as of Tuesday night.

Merino said that little was known about the suspect but described him as a white male adult, about 5-foot-9 inches tall or shorter.
