Man robs Sandy 7-Eleven store after asking for taquito

Police in Sandy are searching for a man who reportedly walked into a 7-Eleven, asked for a taquito and then robbed the store clerk.

According to Sandy Police Sgt. Jonathon Arnold, the man walked into the 7-Eleven near 9800 S. 700 East at about 1:18 a.m. Friday.

Arnold said the man wandered around the store then asked the clerk for a taquito.

When the clerk stepped behind the counter to retrieve the food, Arnold said, the man followed him, pushed him over to the register and shouted "¡Andele!" The man also had his hand in his pocket and acted like he had a weapon.

Arnold said the clerk only spoke three words of Spanish but understood that the man was robbing the store. The clerk consequently opened the register and the man took an undisclosed amount of cash. Arnold added that the clerk was shaken up by the incident but acted according to protocol and was okay.

After robbing the store, the man reportedly left in a black truck and drove east on Sego Lily Drive.

Arnold described the suspect as a Latino man who spoke only Spanish during the robbery. He stands about 5-foot-5 and has a medium build. During the robbery, he had a goatee and wore a brown leather jacket, a blue and white hat, and jeans.
