West Valley City detectives have identified the victim from a fatal shooting earlier this week.

Jesus Lucena Velez, 42, died after police suspect his 60-year-old roommate, Roberto Talojo Romero, shot him at their house at 2363 S. Redwood Road on Sunday night. Velez apparently suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and Romero allegedly admitted that he shot Velez after an argument, said Sgt. Jason Hauer.

Romero was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of murder and obstructing justice, West Valley police announced Monday afternoon. He has yet to be charged.

Witnesses allegedly told investigators that they could hear the two arguing moments before hearing multiple shots being fired. Romero then fled the residence, according to the statement.

Romero allegedly hid the gun used in the shooting in a nearby trash can just before he was arrested, but it was recovered after a witness reported seeing Romero hide the weapon.

Detectives have also found a female, who they considered a person of interest, since they believed she was inside the house at some point before the shooting. The police interviewed her and let her go, and do not expect to file any charges against her related to the incident, according to a news release.
