Pilot suffers only minor injuries in plane crash near Spanish Fork airport

A pilot suffered only minor injuries after his plane crashed near the Spanish Fork airport Tuesday.

Spanish Fork police officials report that they were called to the area near 1950 N. 300 West at around 1:30 p.m., because a plane had crashed in the area.

When they arrived, the pilot was out of the craft and had only a minor laceration on his head. The 67-year-old Orem man was the only person on the plane.

The pilot told Spanish Fork police that he was attempting to land his plane — a Glasair 1 kit airplane — at the nearby Spanish Fork Airport when he began having engine problems and lost power. The pilot landed his plane in a nearby dirt field, according to police. The plane was heavily damaged in the landing.
