Kennecott Utah Copper’s proposal to update its groundwater permit for the Bingham Canyon mine is available for public comment.
The company is asking to cover its water collection system and install a new one at a different location, dubbed the East Waste Rock Extension, where rock and soil overburden can be managed.

They also can be viewed in person at the Division of Water Quality (DWQ), 195 N. 1950 West.
The public can provide comments through the close of business on April 26.
In addition, people will be able to learn about the proposal at two information meetings and a public comment hearing.
Information meetings are scheduled for:
• 6 p.m. March 21, Utah Department of Environmental Quality board room, 195 N. 1950 West.
• 6 p.m. April 8, Daybreak Community Center, 4544 W. Harvest Moon Drive, South Jordan.
The hearing to take public comment is planned for 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. April 8 at Daybreak Community Center, after the information meeting.
