Unified Fire Authority crews used a rope pulley system to rescue an injured man from the side of a mountain after a hang gliding accident on Sunday.
The 41-year-old man took off from a flight park at Point of the Mountain, 15270 S. Steep Mountain Rd. (100 East), Draper, shortly after 4:30 p.m., but quickly lost altitude and was pushed back into the hillside, UFA Capt. Clint Mecham said.
The man dropped about 50 feet and was hurt when he landed on his back, Mecham said.
Rescue crews hiked up to the man and then set up a rope pulley with a firetruck at the mountain's base to bring him down in a stretcher basket, he said.
The man, who was said to be visiting Utah from out of state, was not immediately identified.
The extent of the man's injuries were unknown, but Mecham said he was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
