Salt Lake police on Thursday were crediting several witnesses for tips that helped them quickly track down and arrest three people in a drive-by shooting that targeted an officer’s parked cruiser in west Salt Lake City.
Callers to 911 dispatchers reported multiple gunshots near 1100 West and Indiana Avenue about 11 p.m. Wednesday. In addition to the police car, a nearby vehicle also was struck by bullets, said Detective Dennis McGowan.

No one was hurt, and none of the bullets struck the officer’s home or neighboring residences, police said.
A relatively new silver sedan, possibly a Mazda, was seen leaving the area shortly after the gunfire. Acting on numerous tips after the shooting, police found the vehicle early Thursday morning and arrested three people.
McGowan could not confirm the trio had gang affiliations, but he did say the investigation had been turned over to SLCPD’s gang unit.
Two men, ages 30 and 28, and a 30-year-old woman were booked into Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of felony discharge of a firearm charges.
