Layton • A man washing a cement pumping truck was injured Wednesday morning when he fell into the truck’s auger at Geneva Rock, 750 E. Highway 193, in Layton.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was extricated from the auger after about 30 minutes, according Layton City Fire spokesman Doug Bitton.

The man was not an employee of Geneva Rock but worked for Frontline Concrete Pumping, which is based out of Ogden. The company confirmed that the man was an employee but declined to comment further. Bitton said the man was washing his truck at the Geneva plant when the accident occurred at about 10 a.m.

Bitton said the details of what led to the accident were still unclear Wednesday afternoon, but confirmed that the man’s leg got entangled into the auger, causing significant injuries. The man fell into the machine feet first but was conscious when rescuers used cutting equipment to free him.

He was transported by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
