A South Ogden man was in serious condition Tuesday, a day after being shot during an apparent break-in, police said.

South Ogden police spokeswoman Marci Edwards said the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. Monday. The victim called 911, saying someone had just kicked in the door of his apartment and shot him.

The shooting occurred at the Villa South Apartment Complex, 3750 S. Grant Ave.

"On arrival, officers located the victim inside his apartment; however, the suspect had fled previously. The victim … was conscious and able to speak with officers," Edwards said.

The victim described the suspect as a Latino male wearing a blue bandana over his face, a white hat, dark colored shirt and white basketball-type pants with a blue stripe.

No one else was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital, where he was expected to recover. Police did not detail which part of the victim's body was wounded.

Edwards said the incident was being investigated as an attempted homicide.
