FrontRunner briefly halted while Salt Lake City cops nab would-be jumper

Things were tense for a few moments, but Salt Lake City police were able to talk a man off of a viaduct Monday afternoon before he could jump.

Utah Transit Authority spokesman Steve Allnatt said the FrontRunner commuter train that runs on tracks below the approximately 50-foot high viaduct near North Temple and the Salt Lake Central Hub was closed down at 1:30 p.m., but reopened by 1:40 p.m.

Allnatt said a man had been spotted earlier on the viaduct above the tracks. He appeared to be preparing the jump.

Police were called and the man was taken into custody without incident.

FrontRunner traffic was expected to resume as soon as police cleared the scene.
