An auto theft suspect was arrested Monday, the day after he allegedly plowed through the fence of a Lehi home and abandoned the stolen vehicle.
Lehi police say they got numerous tips from residents who said Brian Stephen Platt was hanging around the area of Willow Park Drive. He was arrested just before 11 a.m.
Platt was being chased by officers when he allegedly crashed a purloined Toyota Corolla through a fence and into the backyard of a home near 2830 West and 560 South just before 3 p.m. Sunday.
As police closed in, the suspect fled on foot and eluded a search of the area.
The family residing in the home was in church at the time of the crash, said Lehi police Lt. Darren Paul.
Paul said Platt was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony; evading police, a third-degree felony; and misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license and giving false personal information to police. He also was arrested on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions, Paul said. Platt is scheduled to make an appearance in court on the new charges Tuesday.
