A flurry of bullets was followed by a high-speed chase and an arrest in Cedar City late Wednesday night, but no one was hurt, police said.

Cedar City police Sgt. Jimmy Roden said a 911 call came in at 9:35 p.m. reporting multiple gunshots being fired from a car at a passing vehicle near Center and Main streets in the Iron County city's downtown area. Responding officers soon spotted the speeding suspect vehicle and began pursuit.

A Utah Highway Patrol helicopter joined the effort, helping officers keep track of the suspect vehicle until it crashed into a parked car.

Officers quickly subdued the suspect, a 20-year-old man. The man, who "expressed suicidal thoughts," was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries, Roden said.

"It was determined that the suspect did shoot at a moving vehicle in the area from which it had fled. The occupants of the vehicle were not injured, but confirmed that the suspect fired multiple gunshots at their vehicle," Roden said Thursday.

After being cleared by doctors late Thursday morning, the suspect was booked into Iron County Jail on suspicion of two counts of attempted homicide, driving while intoxicated, consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, reckless endangerment and failure to stop for police.
