An unidentified naked and bloodied man was hospitalized Sunday evening after sprinting though parts of South Salt Lake and being wrestled to the ground by police.

Police were called about 6 p.m. after the man was spotted near 3100 S. West Temple, said South Salt Lake police Sgt. Mick Wersland. He was next seen scaling a 15 foot cinder block wall in the parking lot of the Trailways bus station, where he is thought to have cut himself on barbed wire along the top of the wall, Wersland said.

From there the man, now covered in blood, headed east to State Street, where he ran north on the east side of the street until police caught him.

Police believe the man may have been high after consuming hallucinogenic mushrooms. Wersland said a common side effect of mushrooms is feeling hot and sweaty. That causes some people to strip off their clothes, he said.

Police called an ambulance and the man was taken to a local hospital.

It wasn't clear Sunday whether the man would be cited for any violations of law.
