A Saturday evening report of an avalanche in Bell Canyon turned out to be a miscommunication, Sandy police said.
A hiker fell and suffered minor injuries while coming out of the east Salt Lake Valley canyon, but did not trigger a slide, Sandy Sgt. Matt McGuire said.

"It turned out to be a whole lot of nothing," McGuire said.
It’s not clear how the miscommunication occurred.
The hiker was in a party of two people and both were accounted for Saturday, night he said. The person who fell suffered only minor injuries and did not require medical treatment, he said.
The incident was reported just before 7 p.m. The Bell Canyon trailhead is located at about 10245 S. Wasatch Blvd. (2400 East) east of Sandy.
