A smoky odor in a cockpit delayed the departure of a Delta Air Lines flight Saturday morning at Salt Lake City International Airport.
Flight 1158 was scheduled to leave at about 10 a.m. for Orlando International Airport. But shortly after takeoff, the captain decided to turn back after he smelled "a smoky odor," said airlines spokesman Trebor Banstetter in a statement.
Once the plane returned to the airport, three passengers who were feeling nauseous requested to be seen by paramedics, said airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann. Details on their conditions were not immediately available, but Jasen Asay, spokesman for the Salt Lake City Fire Department, was not aware of any passengers who had to be taken to the hospital from the airport.
A maintenance crew is inspecting the plane to find the source of the smell. Passengers were transferred to another aircraft from the reserve fleet, Banstetter said. He did not know how long the passengers were delayed.
