Prosecutors have charged a Bountiful man with allegedly sexually abusing a girl who played on his soccer team for three years, beginning when she was 13 years old.
Steven Dale Green was charged with 14 counts, each pertaining to some form of sexual abuse, on Friday in 2nd District Court. All of the charges are first-degree felonies and carry a potential life sentence.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Green, 41, allegedly began having sex with a 13-year-old player on his soccer team in 2008. Green was a friend of the girl’s family, and most of the encounters occurred at Green’s house, happening "almost every day" until 2011, when the girl was 17, according to the affidavit.
Police arrested Green last week at the South Davis Recreation Center, according to jail records. Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Ed Biehler said Green was at the center to work out, and he did not believe Green worked as a soccer coach for the center, which hosts youth soccer leagues in the spring.
Green was booked into the Davis County jail.
Detectives believe Green may still be a coach, but they were unsure with what team or league he may be affiliated, Biehler said last week. Details about Green’s status as a coach were scarce because Green refused to answer investigators’ questions.
