Crews put out commercial fire in North Salt Lake
First Published Feb 20 2013 10:28 pm • Last Updated Feb 21 2013 11:33 am

A commercial fire in North Salt Lake was put out Wednesday night after the blaze was reported in the industrial area on the west side of town just before 9 p.m.

South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jim Rampton said the fire started in one of a handful businesses sharing office space in a building at 645 N. Taylor Way. Firefighters arrived at about 8:50 p.m. and could see smoke and flames coming out of the structure. Flames caused significant damage to the space where the fire originated, which was used as a warehouse storage area, Rampton said. The rest of the building also sustained some smoke damage.

"It’s going to have to have some major repairs, but it’s salvageable," Rampton said of the warehouse.

Crews from Farmington and Salt Lake City assisted in knocking the two-alarm fire down after about 10 minutes. Rampton said the cause of the fire was still being investigated as of late Wednesday night. No one was in the building at the time the fire started, he added.
