Centerville police partially shut down six blocks of Main Street to investigate a suspicious package, which turned out to be flour.
Main Street was closed to northbound traffic from Parrish Lane (400 North) to Chase Lane (1000 North) as investigators inspected the package near 650 North, said police Lt. Paul Child. A passerby noticed it in front of a house, lying by a fire hydrant, Child said.
The bomb squad X-rayed the package — which was eight-by-six-inches and three inches tall — that was wrapped in duct tape.
When the X-ray shed no light on its contents, the South Davis Metro Fire Department hazardous materials crew looked into it and found it was not an explosive, but that it contained an unknown substance.
That substance was later determined to be flour.
Police have removed the package.
