Dump truck rolls in North Salt Lake

First Published Feb 20 2013 10:20 am • Last Updated Feb 20 2013 01:40 pm

Two men were hurt when a semi rig hauling dirt lost its brakes on a hill and rolled Wednesday morning in North Salt Lake.

North Salt Lake police Officer Thomas DeCarlo said the 8:15 a.m. accident left two men — the driver and a nearby motorist — in fair condition at area hospitals.

"A semi delivering a load of dirt to a construction site was heading down a steep hill when its brakes failed, and the driver lost control and rolled [at 39 E. Ridge Drive]," DeCarlo said.

Meanwhile, a man sitting inside his truck in a parking lot saw the semi rolling toward him and tried to run from his vehicle, but the semi’s tail gate hit him.

The driver of the semi was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray while the motorist was being treated at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful.

The accident was the second in Utah involving a dump truck in as many days. On Tuesday, a dump truck went through the guard rail of a bridge in Provo and fell approximately 30 feet, killing its driver.
