Firefighters were still investigating the cause of a fire that erupted in a West Jordan garage Monday afternoon while no one was home.
West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Steve Holmes said neighbors who reported the fire claimed to hear some popping noises before the garage erupted into flames. By the time fire crews arrived, the garage was fully engulfed. No one was injured in the fire.

Holmes said the flames were extinguished after about 10 minutes, but the blaze caused extensive damage to the garage and to a room above it. The home’s nearby kitchen also had minor fire and smoke damage, Holmes said. A monetary amount on the damage was not known Monday night.
As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, fire investigators were still at the scene on New Heritage Circle (9280 South) near 3600 West investigating the cause.
Holmes said that the fire did not seem suspicious but that investigators should know more by Tuesday.
