Cedar City police are investigating as a homicide a Friday shooting episode that left one man dead from multiple gunshot wounds and a woman hospitalized in critical condition.
Police have also arrested a 54-year-old man whom they call a "person of interest" in the case. Thad Robertson was booked into the Iron County jail early Saturday for investigation of possessing methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a dangerous weapon as a restricted person.
Robertson was questioned about the shooting incident at the home, 386 N. 400 West, on Friday evening, although Cedar City Sgt. Jimmy Roden wouldn’t comment on how much information, if any, he had provided.
Officers responded to the home at about 2 p.m. Friday after they received reports about a suicidal man and a possible shooting, according to a news release. Robertson was outside the home when police arrived and told officers there were two people inside, one of whom may have been armed with a handgun. He said at least one had been shot.
Iron County’s Metro SWAT team went inside the home and found a deceased man and a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where she remained in critical condition.
Police have not yet identified the injured woman or the deceased man due to problems contacting their families, Roden said.
They were the only ones inside the home.
The relationship between the man, the woman and Robertson also remained unclear Saturday, as was a motive for the shootings.
Investigators were working to determine whether Robertson lives at the home.
