A 40-year-old Salt Lake City man charged with five felonies for the alleged sexual abuse of a 10-year-old boy at a 2008 sleepover is facing new charges for an unrelated 2012 assault.
William Patrick Estell was charged Monday in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court with three first-degree felony counts of forcible sodomy and one count of second-degree forcible sexual abuse for allegedly engaging in sex acts with a 14-year-old boy at a park near the Jordan River Parkway.
If convicted of the charges, Estell faces a possible life sentence.
The alleged assault occurred about three months before Estell was charged with the 2008 offenses, court documents show.
In the newest case, prosecutors contend Estell approached the boy on a playground at 1665 South Riverside Drive, and began to talk to him. In a probable cause statement filed with the court, the boy told police the conversation turned to "rough housing," and that when he was tackled by Estell, the older man put his hands down the boy's pants and touched his penis, court papers say.
The boy was then led to secluded area along the Jordan River Parkway where he was forced to engage in oral and anal sex, even though he had asked Estell to "stop," the documents say.
No hearing dates have been set in the new case and court records don't indicate whether Estell has obtained an attorney.
Estell is currently being held in the Salt Lake County jail and could not be reached for comment. Bail is set at more than $300,000.
A preliminary hearing in Estell's 2008 case is set for March 26.
