Two people were injured and hospitalized late Friday after a near head-on collision on State Road 89 near the border between Sanpete and Utah counties.
The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. when a southbound car attempted to pass a slower-moving car and collided with a northbound pickup truck, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release.

One driver suffered critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to a waiting medical helicopter at the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon before being taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.
The second driver was also injured and was taken by ambulance to the same hospital in poor condition, the UHP said.
The names of the injured were not immediately released.
The crash remains under investigation, but a preliminary assessment indicates that the cars were travelling at speeds too fast for the winter road conditions, the UHP said.
