Man and young boy wanted for Provo Canyon burglary
Utah County homeowners who were burglarized by an adult and a pint-sized tag-along in December are offering a cash reward for any information that could nab the criminals.
Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said Thursday that a woman living in the Springdell neighborhood of Provo Canyon discovered a man in his 20s and a child between the ages of 8 and 12 inside her home stealing valuables. When they were discovered, the two ran away with jewelry and a Nikon camera together worth about $10,000.
The woman chased after the two and saw them run across a nearby stream to Highway 89 before she lost them. A neighbor also saw the pair wandering the area that same day. The burglary occurred at about 11:30 a.m.
Cannon said that police are especially concerned that a young boy was involved in the crime. Authorities aren't sure what connection the two may have.
"Fortunately for this case, they were more worried about getting away than not being identified," Cannon said. The homeowner was able to provide a fairly detailed description of the two burglars.
The man is described as being between 20 and 25 years old, about 5-foot, with a medium build, dark hair, dark complexion and scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a brown and black coat, jeans and boots.
The boy is described as shorter than average for his approximate age. He was wearing a light-colored jacket with a dark knit hat or hood. He also is believed to have worn a pair of white Nike Shox Monster shoes.
