Park City Mountain Resort played a feature role Wednesday in a national television promotion of the Sochi Winter Olympics, which begin Feb. 6, 2014, in the southern Russian city.
Staff of the Utah resort built a slopestyle skiing course in New York City's Rockefeller Center, home to the Today Show on NBC, which has the U.S. rights to broadcast the Sochi Games next year.
Slopestyle will make its debut as a sport in Sochi, less than a month after the U.S. Olympic freeskiing slopestyle and halfpipe teams are named at Park City Mountain Resort. The announcement ceremony is part of a partnership between the U.S. Olympic Committee and Park City-based Powdr Corp., parent company of Park City Mountain Resort.
The Rockefeller Center course was built with snow from Vermont's Killington Resort, which also is owned by Powdr Corp. Once it was in place, Park City All Star Tom Wallisch and two other slopestyle team members, Bobby Brown and Keri Herman, showed Today watchers what kind of action to expect from the new sport.
