A Davis School District teacher was released on bail Friday, a day after being arrested when police allegedly found heroin in her car, parked near the elementary school where she taught.
Claudia Reaney, 49, posted $5,000 bail and was released pending yet unscheduled court proceedings. She had been booked into Davis County Jail Thursday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, a jail staffer confirmed.
Syracuse police Lt. Tracy Jensen said Reaney was arrested by Syracuse police officers reportedly acting on an anonymous tip that her car, parked on a street outside Buffalo Point Elementary School (1924 S. Doral Drive), contained an unspecified amount of heroin.
Police reported that a drug-sniffing dog alerted to Reaney’s car and a subsequent search located several baggies of a suspicious substance.
Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams said that Reaney had been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of her case.
She has been a teacher with the district since July 2007, teaching third grade at Buffalo Elementary since 2008.
