A former American Fork city treasurer has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and ordered to repay the nearly $80,000 she stole over a three-year period.
Heidi L. Mitchell, 34, had pleaded guilty as charged to one count of second-degree felony theft.

Judge Fred Howard ordered jail time and 36 months probation, during which time she must pay a $1,173 fine and $79,214.56 in restitution.
If Mitchell fails to repay the money, or otherwise does not successfully complete her probation, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
Mitchell stole the nearly $80,000 in cash by making fraudulent alterations to the city’s financial records between March 2009 and February 2012, according to court documents.
Deputy Utah County Attorney Chad Grunander said Thursday that the city has been reimbursed by a bonding company, and Mitchell must pay restitution to the bonding company, Travelers Casualty and Surety.
Grunander said Mitchell spent the money on "personal expenses."
He noted that when Mitchell was contacted by police, she was "forthcoming and cooperative … and admitted to the thefts."
The judge told Mitchell to report to the Utah County jail by Monday .
