No injuries reported in Cache County school bus crash
A school bus navigating through snow-covered roads in northern Utah ran off the road and into a ditch while three children were on board Wednesday afternoon. The Cache County Sheriff's Office reported that no one was injured.
The bus slid off the road and rolled onto its side at about 4:15 p.m. in Trenton. The driver, two aides and three children were on board at the time. One child was in a wheelchair and required the assistance of sheriff's deputies and other emergency responders to help him and the wheelchair out of the bus. The driver, who was dropping children off after school, was travelling on 400 East and slid off the road near 1245 South.
Lt. Brian Locke of the Cache County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday evening that the children were waiting for parents to pick them up from the crash site. Deputies were still investigating the crash Wednesday.
It appeared that weather was a factor in the crash, Locke said. The heavy snowfall in the area caused deep drifts that made it hard for the driver to see where the road ended. The driver was too close to the side of the road, and the bus slid into the ditch and lay on its side, Locke said.
