A 21-year-old man was recovering Sunday after police said he was stabbed multiple times by his teenage brother.

Cottonwood Heights police Sgt. Gary Young said the man and his 16-year-old brother had been attending a family celebration at a home at 2653 E. Creek Road. An argument erupted between the two about 5:15 a.m., and the teen stabbed the 21-year-old in the arm and side.

The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center where he underwent surgery, Young said. The was listed in critical condition Sunday morning but would likely survive, Young said.

The teen was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and booked into juvenile detention.

Young said investigators suspect alcohol may have been a factor.
