Police on Thursday were investigating how an armed security guard managed to discharge his gun at ta public library in downtown Salt Lake City.

Sgt. Shawn Josephson said the CBI security guard's weapon accidentally discharged about noon Sunday at the Main Library, 210 E. 400 South. Library spokeswoman Julianne Hancock said the gun went off in the library's first-floor security office prior to opening.

The bullet went through two walls and embedded in a third, Josephson said.

No one was injured. He said officers were still investigating what the security officer was doing when the gun discharged.

Hancock referred additional comment to CBI Security, which employs the guard.
