Police have arrested a former Layton teacher they suspect was having sex with a student almost 10 years ago.
Officers arrested Chaarie Lynne Jaramillo, 35, Tuesday on suspicion of three counts of rape and three counts of forcible sex abuse.
Police learned in February 2012 about a possible relationship between Jaramillo and a 17-year-old male student at Northridge High School from 2003 to 2004, that allegedly lasted more than a year, according to a news release from Layton police.
Jaramillo was a teacher there at the time and therefore held a special "position of trust" with students, according to the release.
Police arrested her Tuesday night and are still investigating the case. At this point, police have no information about other student victims, said Lt. Shawn Horton.
Jaramillo had been a teacher at Northridge High School from 2001 to 2009, said Mark Peterson, spokesman for the Utah State Office of Education.
After that, she started teaching social studies at Granger High School in West Valley City, said Ben Horsley, spokesman for Granite School District. He added that she has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
