A man arrested by Salt Lake City police after he fled his car on foot at a traffic stop was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin.

The 33-year-old Mexican national was being held in lieu of $2,009 bail Wednesday after being booked into Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of second-degree felony distribution of a controlled substance and misdemeanor counts of failure to stop at the command police, driving without a license and making an unsafe lane change.

Police said the man was arrested after a short foot chase at 800 S. State Street about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. A subsequent search of his car turned up an unspecified amount of heroin, officers said.
