Quick-working fire and hazardous materials crews from Juab County-area communities extinguished a raging semitrailer fire Sunday evening, preventing a tanker of gasoline from exploding.

The southbound semi was hauling two trailers full of gas — a full-size and a smaller, pup-size unit. It was the pup that caught fire, according to a series of UHP tweets.

The driver of the semitrailer was not injured. The fiery crash occurred at the Yuba Lake exit, about 60 miles south of Provo. It shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 at Scipio and southbound lanes at Nephi, for nearly four hours.

Fire crews from Levan, Nephi, Mona, Scipio and Millard, along with hazardous materials crews from Nephi and Sevier County, were among those on the scene, UHP said. Provo fire and hazmat and Sanpete hazmat crews also responded.
