Taylorsville

Council opening • Residents who want to serve on the City Council have until 5 p.m. Jan. 25 to turn in an application. Applicants must live in District 3, be a registered voter, have lived in Taylorsville for the past 12 months and have no felony convictions. The appointment will be made by council members on Jan. 30 and the term is for the remainder of 2013. Visit http://www.taylorsvilleut.gov/ for more information. The vacancy was created by Councilman Jerry Rechtenbach's selection as interim mayor.

Salt Lake County

The weather outside is frightful • County officials are reminding residents in unincorporated areas that they are responsible for keeping the sidewalks and mailboxes in front of their homes clear and that any vehicle left on a designated emergency snow-removal route may be towed at the owner's expense. They recommend that sidewalks be cleared after crews have plowed the roads and that snow be piled on the yard, not the street.
