Alleged bank robber and getaway driver charged

An alleged credit union robber and his getaway driver have been charged in federal court.

Prosecutors charged the suspected robber, a man, and driver, a woman, on Thursday in U.S. District Court of Utah with two counts of credit union robbery.

The pair’s first hit was a Riverton Cyprus Credit Union at 13717 S. Redwood Road on Nov. 16, according to the charges.

Disguised in a hood and sunglasses, the man handed the teller a note demanding money and left the building with an undisclosed amount of money, police said. The robber then got into the passenger side a blue Ford Taurus, with a woman behind the wheel, and the two drove off.

Then on Nov. 29, a man robbed a Mountain America Credit Union at 4950 S. Highland Drive in Holladay. Using a note similar to the one in the Riverton robbery, the man made off with the money in a white Audi convertible, the charges state.

Two witnesses who are familiar with the man tipped law enforcement that he was the robber, and they identified him in the surveillance photos and videos from both credit unions. He also offered to sell one of the witnesses a blue Ford Taurus, and mentioned his possession of a white Audi convertible, the charges add.

Officers found and stopped him on Dec. 13 while he was driving a stolen Audi, with the woman in the passenger seat. A search of his phone revealed messages about the two robberies.

The woman later told investigators that she had been the getaway driver in the robberies, and that she had written the notes demanding money.
