Gov. Gary Herbert has appointed attorney Jeffrey C. Wilcox to fill a vacancy on the 5th District Court bench, which hears cases originating in Beaver, Iron and Washington counties.
"Jeff has a well-deserved reputation as a litigator who possesses both outstanding skills and unquestioned integrity. His wide breadth of practice areas will make him an asset to the bench" Herbert said Wednesday in a news release. "He has demonstrated a commitment to serving the people of Utah with his practice and will now do so as a judge."
"I am truly humbled by the invitation to serve on the court," said Wilcox in a news release "It's a great opportunity to serve the community I love."
Wilcox joined the St. George-based Gallian, Wilcox, Welker, Olson & Beckstrom, L.C., in 1984 shortly after being admitted to the Utah Bar. Wilcox has practiced in many areas, including general litigation, real estate, banking, commercial, corporate, partnership, business, personal injury, insurance defense, construction law, and adoption.
Wilcox earned his law degree in 1984 at Brigham Young University, which included a summer law program at Cambridge, England. He received a bachelor's degree in agricultural business administration from the University of Minnesota in 1980.
Wilcox's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
